Yogg-Saron +0 US First Kill by Premonition
The last first kill of Ulduar is now claimed, Premonition (US - Sen'jin) just defeated Yogg-Saron with no guardian helping for the first time in the US. We were working on it for weeks (months?) and theorycraft began ages ago. All of the silly forum threads and "math" that proved it impossible were quite obviously not even close to accurate.

The progression phases a raid goes through on this fight while learning are just amazing. From how to keep ahead in phase 2, maximizing stun times, getting all corruptors down, then dealing with mob handling in phase 3... with your tanks having extremely limited time, sanity, and tons of pressure to even figure out what they have to do to maximize efficiency, while your DPS is trying to not lose their own sanity while the boss is killed.

The strategies we went through and brainstormed were pretty damn bizarre at times (rogues sprint kiting, priest fade kiting, warlock demonic teleport kiting), all seemed insane. We settled for a split strategy which required insane AOE dps to pull off successfully, and that's where the summertime + holidays showed up!

It was an absolute blast, Blizzard truly designed something marvelous here, and we were very excited to know it wasn't going to be nerfed after all (reducing the number of beacons that go out would really ruin the complexity and ways to handle phase 3).

Great job by everyone in guild, and our members who couldn't be there, and especially our trials who stuck it out. Much respect to STARS and Paragon.

Video will be coming, frostmage/tank PoV.

Few words on the strategy (Source)
As many people know, being able to AoE DPS through multiple stacks of Empowering Shadows is extremely difficult, if not impossible. So we did something extremely creative to counter all the problems created by having to taunt out multiple beacons and the AoE cap: we used Priests to Fade kite the Immortals.

A Shadow Priest with Glyph of Fade and a shadow talent can get their Fade cooldown to 15 seconds and it takes approximately 8 seconds for an Immortal to run from the far back of the room to the door (they really run fast). So we basically have a Priest be full out DPS on each new Immortal (along with melee) and all the other ranged are on Yogg. Priest AoEs through Empowering Shadows while the melee keeps killing new Immortals.

The idea is that the Shadow Priest gets second on threat behind the tank with Rogues using Tricks of the Trade on the Priest to keep the aggro close. We go through 2 Beacons normally and for the third one, the tank AoE taunts all the Immortals as the Empowering Shadows are flying through the air, the Priest runs to the entrance of the room, the Rogues spam Fan with Tricks on the Priest and the tank is given Hand of Salvation and Hand of Protection from 2 different Paladins. Once the AoE taunt is over, all the mobs run to the Priest who is at the door and a Rogue peels off the raid to keep spamming Fan of Knives on those 14-15ish Immortals. When the Immortals reach the Priest, he uses Fade and 7½ seconds later, the Priest cancels his Fade.

Repeat this twice (30 Immortals running back and forth, 2 Priests and 2 Rogues not DPSing) and you finish off Yogg right as the berserk goes off.

The strat obviously has flaws such as losing the RNG on how many heals Yogg gets, Immortals trying to drain too much and getting split up from their clump, but overall it's not very stressful except for the Priests doing the kiting.
